Two words. HOLY and SHIT! This is without a doubt going into the hall of Great Black Metal albums. Immortal has always been known as an amazing Black Metal band and has dropped some vital albums for a well-round metalhead's collection. This, however, takes the cake. Sons of Northern Darkness is one of the best Black Metal albums, if not just Metal, period, I've ever heard. It holds the place as one of the last albums to be recorded and produced by Hypocrisy frontman, Peter Tagtgren's legendary Abyss Studios. What an album to go out with. Frontman/Guitarist Abbath furthermore shows the unreal playing ability that has made him one of metals modern-day Riff Masters. Songs like "One by One", "In my Kingdom Cold", "Tyrants" and "Within the Dark Mind" display blasting, symponic metal as it rarely is heard, like a cold Norway winter storm at it's worst. Get this album or die.
