So I'm digging this new Kylesa album more than I thought I would, their past releases have their moments, but just haven't really done it for me overall. This release seems a little broader than the usual fair and sees the band trying to come into a sound all their own. There's more melodic guitar lines, some good old-school harmonies, strange effects, the usual dose of spacey shit, piano here and there for some reason, and a slight hardcore sing-along feel on a few numbers, like "Unknown Awareness". "Static Tensions" stands out a little more in today's overcrowded downtuned stoner metal scene, just how much though, I'm not sure.
