Primus
No one sounds like Primus, in
fact I doubt anyone COULD sound like them, and while this band is an
acquired taste, my taste acquired quickly...I mean, how can you listen
to "Sailing the Seas Of Cheese" and not be hooked?
To those who have never heard Primus, this band is hard to
describe...the songs center around bass riffs for the most part, with
a guitar squealing here and there, the vocals are nuerotic to say the
least, the lyrics are demented, and well, they just sound...strange.
This album lives up to all that and more...This time Primus have
truly ventured into the totally bizzare with songs like "Laquer Head"
(a rather amusing song about high school kids sniffing paint and
carb cleaner), the epic "Eclectic Electric" (featuring Jim Martin and
James Hetfield on guitar), and "Coattails Of a Dead Man". I can't
quite put my finger on it, but this album is a bit different from
previous releases...maybe heavier in some places? more groove? not
sure. It is better than the last album, it rivals Pork Soda
and Tales From the Punchbowl in my humble opinion and definately
kicks ass...but whether anything can touch Sailing The Seas Of Cheese
is still unknown.
One thing is for sure though, Primus still sucks!
