This is the debut from the Swedish Svarte Pan recorded in Roastinghouse studio during January '02 by Anders "Theo" Theander, and also mixed in the same studio. I’m not a big fan of Anders productions, I think that he has failed with a lot of productions through the years, but this works. Both the production and the mix sound great.

Svarte Pan plays 70’s hard rock influenced by progressive rock, but on some of the songs the progressive sound takes over and the musical direction turns to the opposite. The band has chosen to sing in Swedish and it works really great, it’s very unusual to hear hard rock in Swedish, not many bands do that.

There are 10 tracks on the debut and for the most part, they are written by Björn Holmdén. Björn is plays incredibly with words in his lyrics; it’s kind of like poetry.

Pelle Engvall - drums
Björn Holmdén - lead vocals, harmonica
Conny Andersson - acoustic/electric guitar, b-vox
Christian de Lux - bass, acoustic guitar, b-vox

Svarte Pan has done a great amount of touring both before and after the album, and when I talked to Björn he told me that it was time to work on the second album. They had a few gigs left to do in Norway before the tour was about to end. Even though they sing in Swedish they have a big response from the rest of Europe.

There is not a bad track on the album at all, this is impressive. If you like 70’s hardrock with progressive elements, this is definitely something to check out.
